Frequently Asked Questions

Wilmaa

Do I have to install anything to use Wilmaa?
No. Your browser with an up-to-date flash plug-in is enough.

I’m getting a message that I have firewall interference.
We are doing everything possible to allow you to watch TV without any problems. If firewall interference continues, please open Port 1935. Or get a friend who can do it for you.

I’m getting a message that I’m in a country where I can’t use Wilmaa.
For licensing reasons Wilmaa reception is only available in Switzerland at the present time. We are negotiating with other countries so that there is also Wilmaa reception abroad. At the present time, however, we cannot be specific about dates.

I am in Switzerland but I am getting an error message that Wilmaa reception is only available in Switzerland. What’s wrong?
You are probably using an IP address which isn’t registered in Switzerland. Your Internet access may come through a connection abroad. It is normal in larger company networks to have all employee Internet access from a central location in the head office. If this is abroad, then Wilmaa won’t be able to recognise you as a Swiss viewer. If you go to the website www.wieistmeineip.ch you will be able to see how your current IP address appears externally and to which country it is allocated.

I’m getting a message that Adobe Flash isn't installed.
In order to be able to watch TV with Wilmaa, you need the latest version of Adobe Flash Player on your computer. Use this URL to verify which version is currently installed on your PC: www.adobe.com

I don’t have a television. When I watch TV via the Internet do I still have to register with Billag?
As soon as you watch TV irrespective whether on TV or via the Internet you are obliged to register with Billag. This is the law: www.billag.com

How can I watch other broadcasters with Wilmaa?
We are constantly working towards bringing other channels with a reception in Switzerland to you at home. Please let us know which of your favourite TV programmes you are still unable to get, by emailing us (wilmaa@wilmaa.com).

How does Wilmaa work?
Wilmaa operates via Unicast Streaming i.e. a stream per user from the server. For distribution purposes we use the network from Akamai Technologies (www.akamai.com), This means we have guaranteed reliability that streams will always arrive at the end user, even where there is heavy traffic. The bandwidth used for the streams is around 1 Mbit/s.
